Max vs Wretch

A scene from The Vanishing, the first book in The Last Dogs series by Christopher Holt. It's about a golden lab named Max who's haunted by nightmares inspired by a premonition of a dark disaster from a black lab named Madame Curie, who disappeared shortly after all the humans disappeared.

He manages to get out the kennel he was trapped in thanks to a Dachsund named Rocky, who belonged to the Vet. They set out to find their families, and find the Enclave, a society of dogs led by a Poodle named Dandyclaw. There they find Gizmo, who was also left behind by her Pack Leaders. After the Enclave is attacked by a pack of wolves bent on revenge, they enter a ruined city, where they meet a house full of cats, a pack of rabid dogs, and a subway full of rats. Then they enter the Corporation, where the Chairman, a Doberman formerly called Precious, rules a seemingly perfect society.

This is the scene where Max hides in the kibble room when a wolf named Wretch attacks him out of starvation.

This series is PERFECT, for Survivors fans, or anybody who likes dogs and post-apocalyptic stories.
